Sam's Baseball Team Raffle July 4th

If anyone is really into the Orioles or the Tampa Bay Devil Rays or just wants to see a live baseball game up close and personal (bring your baseball glove), Sam's baseball team is raffling off tickets to raise funds for its 11U Savage Spirit Travel Baseball Team.  The winner will receive 4 tickets to the July 20th 7:05 pm game in Section 12 Row 6 on the 1st base line as well as one parking pass so you do not have to walk 2 miles from the Ravens stadium!  These are corporate seats at the stadium donated to us for the raffle from Pepsi Company.

The ticket donation is $5 per ticket or $20 for 6 tickets.  Our drawing date will be Sunday July 4th at our Rockville 4th of July tournament.  You will be notified that night if you won.

Thanks for supporting Sam's team!  If you want a raffle ticket please contact Carole W.    at csiwiedorfer@verizon.net

Updates 7/8/09

Sam did it again!!!

At Camden Yards yesterday he participated in the team championship level (3rd level as he had already won the 1st 2) of a pitch hit and run contest.  He came in 1st place of 4 contestants in his 9-10 age group.  He did an awesome job of pitching which is the real point-maker in this type of competition.  His hitting was great too and he broke his own speed record in running the bases.  We do not know yet if he goes to St. Loius, MO mid-July for the MLB All-Stars game and Natinal Level of Pitch Hit and Run competition.  Sam's scores are now compared with lots of other 1st place winners across the country and only the highest 3 get to go.  But it was a thrill for him to be playing at Camden Yards today on the real field and he his very proud of himself.

Thanks to all who have and continue to support my son and his sports ambition.  -- Carole

Ian and Karl Brown

Thanks go today to these young players who are sharing their musical talents as part of our worship.

Ian has made the MD All State Junior Band, Karl is a member of the Howard County Middle School Honors Band.  Congratulations to the both of them!

The Invention they are playing together is one of 15 which Bach wrote as teaching pieces and they are a  real challenge.  The piece demonstrates a real give and take between the two performers.

Update 12/14/08
We are all Proud of Sam

Another AWESOME game was played today by Sam's team, the Columbia Ravens.  They played the GORC Wildcats (Gambrills-Odenton Rec Council) and creamed them 40-0.  Unbelievable!!!  The Ravens had not played a game in almost a month and it was like nothing to them today - they were truly a professional, well-practiced and ready-to-win-this-game team!!

We are all VERY excited about the opportunity to go to M&T stadium on Dec 20th.  The players can't wait to play on the real Ravens' football field.  What an honor and joy for them!!  Thaey have worked very hard for this and it has paid off.  They are going into this final State championship game with a 14-0 record.  They will play Overlea who is ranked 1st in the state.  But after what we have seen consistently with the Ravens over this entire football season, I am not sure Overlea stands a chance!!

The game is at 10:30am as we know it now.  Rumor has it that parking is free, the stadium is open to the public to come to these games, and you can buy your tickets at the stadium that day.  When I have more info I will pass it along.

GO ALL THE WAY, RAVENS!!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As many of you already know, Sam's football team, the Columbia Ravens 7-9 National Division, clinched the Mid-Maryland Youth Football League Superbowl title on Saturday, beating the Western Howard County Warhawks 22-16.  It was the most exciting game of the season as the Warhawks were always at the heels of the Ravens and it went down to the last few seconds of the game to actually determine the winner.  The Ravens went the entire season (9-0) and playoffs (3-0) undefeated which I find absolutely remarkable.  Sam and I are still in shock as to how all this turned out for him given that he had never played tackle football before.  He is very proud of himself and is wearing his medal almost everywhere right now.

In addition, the Ravens sent 4 of 5 National age groups to the finals this weekend and ALL 4 took the Superbowl championships for their group!!  This is a remarkable organization and I highly recommend it if your son or daughter or other child wants to play tackle football.

The Ravens now advance to the Maryland State level championship play.  The first game will be Saturday, December 6 playing some unknown team, somewhere in Howard County, at sometime of the day.  We may not know the full details until after Thanksgiving.

Thanks to all who have supported us through this, especially my sister Donna who took care of various kids at various times so I could be in 2 places at once with 2 active kids!!

Enjoy the championship pics.

Lifetouch Pictorial Directories awards St Paul's Lutheran  "Best of the Best" in a Non-Disk submitted directory category

St Paul's recently received a letter and certificate from Lifetouch Pictorial Directories
awarding us "Best of the Best" in a Non-Disk submitted directory category.  Lifetouch
has asked that we give them permission to use our Pictorial Directory as a model
for others who are considering working with Lifetouch to use in the preparation and
design of their directories.

This doesn't happen without a team - and thanks should go to all who participated to
make the 2008 Pictorial Directory such a success.  This time last year we were hard
at work on layout and design.  By January, we had a finished product, but not before
we were informed we needed to re-design and re-submit the directory for a 2nd proof.
And now this!  I am thrilled for all those who helped to pull this project together.

Thanks to everyone who sat for portraits, those who hosted and coordinated appointment
schedules for our members, those who purchased portraits and those who helped in the
design and layout of our second proof:  Donna Frederick, Karen Nieman, Betsy Brown,
Rachelle Chvala, Debbie Marston, and Ricky Frederick.

We are thrilled to accept this award and congratulate all who helped in any way to
pull the project together.  Special thanks to Ferrell McCollough for the cover photo!
