Maltese Cross

(38) Maltese Cross

Number five of a series of six crosses chosen by Pastor Rod and made by Sandy August.

In the fifteenth century they represented the eight lands of the Knights of Hospitaller. (This area later became known as the Maltese.) It was used to protect a courageous band of crusaders known as Knights of St. John who fought the Saracens for possession of the Holy Land. Today fire fighters use it as a symbol of protection.
